Common Questions

For informational purposes only. Not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice. Read more here.

Why do I have allergies?

Allergies happen when your body’s immune system (your internal defense system) overreacts to a substance that is normally harmless, such as pollen, mistaking it as a dangerous invader like a disease.

It is not clear why you develop allergies or why they’re becoming more common, but there are theories including family history, living in cleaner environments, and a changing climate.

What allergy treatments are available if drugstore products aren’t working for me?

Since allergies are an improper immune reaction, immunotherapy is a widely used prescription treatment. It works by desensitizing the immune system over time to what’s causing your allergies.

Other treatments include steroids, emollients, decongestants, antihistamines, as well as at-home relief like saline irrigation.

Do I need to use insurance?

With Open, you don’t need insurance to access quality care. We strive to make the prescription allergy care you need fair and accessible.

Our allergy care plan starts at $22/week for an annual plan and can be billed every month, every 6 months, or every year. At present, we do not take insurance.
