a leading solution supported by world-class experts

Immunotherapy has been allergists’ go-to solution for decades. Today there are over 1 million Americans treating their allergies with it. The sublingual method is well researched and endorsed by the World Health Organization. We apply this innovation in our convenient, at-home care known as Ambrosia.

designed for this season and every season to come

Ambrosia, our immunotherapy, is designed to target the underlying cause of your allergies. Drugstore medications like pills, sprays, and inhalers only suppress symptoms while your body struggles, which is why they only provide temporary relief. Our Ambrosia trains your immune system over time to coexist with the world around you by targeting the root problem.

Common Questions

Immunotherapy just means a medicine that helps your immune system work better. Allergy immunotherapy is designed to train your immune system to heal and defend itself from allergies, boosting your body’s natural defenses. With Open, your allergy specialist prescribes a personalized immunotherapy for your specific immune system to target the underlying cause.

Compare this to drug store medications you use like allergy pills, nasal sprays, and inhalers. These are only designed to suppress symptoms without treating the underlying cause, which is why they only provide temporary relief.

Modern innovations in care allow Open to deliver your immunotherapy care at-home without any needles.

Most patients begin to see results within the first 6 months, but results are not immediate. Some patients report benefits within just 8 weeks, while others report one to two years to see effects.

By addressing the underlying cause, immunotherapy is designed to be a long-term solution that you can enjoy for many years to come, but long-term results require at least 3-5+ years of care.

Note that efficacy of treatment may vary and results can never be guaranteed.

Treatment can be effective for allergies caused by environmental allergens like pollens, weeds, grasses, dust mites, molds, cats, and dogs. We do not currently treat food or stinging insect allergies.

Treatment is generally not recommended for patients with uncontrolled asthma or a history of severe, life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Your Open Care Team will evaluate the best treatment paths for you personally when they review your medical file.

For children, we treat patients as young as 5 years old.

Open’s method of allergy immunotherapy enjoys respected support and is backed by decades of research and practice by allergy experts around the world. That’s why Open is working to expand access to this revolutionary treatment to patients like you with top-quality American pharmaceuticals, physicians, and technology.

The World Health Organization, World Allergy Organization, and other accredited bodies endorse it for the treatment of allergic disease.

Leading allergy specialists across the world practice it, including at the renowned Johns Hopkins medical institution. Watch a video from Johns Hopkins here.

It has been used for decades to treat millions of patients around the world, who celebrate its success.

Note that efficacy of treatment may vary and results can never be guaranteed. The above research should help educate your decision.

Open’s method of immunotherapy has a strong track record of safety with decades in practice around the world. With a low history of safety incidents, it is considered a safe allergy treatment as endorsed by the World Health Organization.

Temporary side effects are uncomfortable but fortunately low-risk. Typical side effects can include: itching in mouth/lips (most common); temporary increase in allergy symptoms like congestion, coughing, sneezing; digestion problems like upset stomach, cramping, diarrhea; skin rashes including light hives; very rarely, headaches.

Severe reactions are extremely rare with sublingual immunotherapy but can lead to a life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis. Symptoms can include: unusual swelling and/or tenderness at the administration site; swelling of the face and/or mouth; throat tightness; serious wheezing, coughing, or difficulty breathing; shortness of breath; serious, unusual nausea; dangerous drop in blood pressure and rapid heart rate; serious hives or itching of the skin; clammy skin; dizziness or faintness; collapsing or losing consciousness. These severe symptoms can indicate anaphylaxis, an emergency medical condition.

Both allergy shots and Ambrosia are forms of allergy immunotherapy. The major difference is their route of administration.

Allergy shots are injected, with regular visits 1-2 times per month to the doctor’s office for injections.

Ambrosia immunotherapy uses the same medicine but is instead taken as a few drops under the tongue every day from home.
